Trans Without Abuse Project Lead
Debbie joined My CWA in October 2023 as Project Lead for the Trans Without Abuse initiative. With a rich and diverse background, Debbie is poised to make a significant impact on the lives of trans and non-binary individuals affected by domestic abuse. She is soon to be a qualified Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) in September 2024, further enhancing her ability to support survivors.
Debbie is the author of Live Free, the world’s first online domestic abuse recovery program specifically designed for trans and non-binary people. Her dedication to this community is evident in her extensive qualifications, including accreditation in Engaging with Those Who Harm from SafeLives and facilitation of the Polari LGBT Domestic Abuse recovery program. Additionally, she has completed SEA's Recognise and Responding to Economic Abuse and the Open University’s Support Through Court Domestic Abuse course.
As a CARA Facilitator for the Behaviour Change Programme and holding a CPI Safety Intervention (Foundation) certification, Debbie works adeptly with both survivors and perpetrators. She is currently partnering with SafeLives and Drive to develop an innovative LGBT+ perpetrator program. Her qualifications also include a Level 3 Diploma in Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy, and an NCFE Cache Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Working with People with Mental Health Needs. Moreover, she is trained in Digilog Levels 2 & 3 for Risk Screening & Conversation Management and Mentoring.
Debbie’s multifaceted career also includes roles as a director of Trans Pride Manchester and a radio presenter. As a trainee counsellor, she is committed to continuous learning and providing empathetic support. Her previous professional experiences are varied and impressive, spanning 20 years as an award-winning insurance leader, as well as roles as an ex-head chef and ex-army personnel.
Debbie’s unique blend of skills, experience, and dedication to the trans and non-binary community makes her an invaluable asset to My CWA, where she continues to drive forward innovative and inclusive support services.
