GDPR & Data Protection

Handling personal information is part of everyday practice. But when information relates to domestic abuse, safeguarding or children, decisions about what to record, access or share can have significant consequences.

You may need to consider: Can I share this information? Do I need consent? What if someone asks to see their records? Could sharing information put someone at risk?

Good data protection is not simply about following legislation. It is about making careful, justifiable decisions about people’s personal information.

About this course

This self-paced course explores GDPR and data protection within domestic abuse and related services.

You’ll consider personal data and privacy, good recording practice, Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs), information sharing and consent, and the additional considerations when information relates to children and safeguarding.

You’ll also explore the Caldicott Principles, Gillick competency and best interests, and when further advice may be needed.

Think about the context, consider the risks, justify your decision and record your reasoning.

This course includes examples involving domestic abuse and safeguarding which some learners may find sensitive.
