About Course
The Hidden Cost of domestic abuse to UK business; why it matters and what you can do.
Something has changed with a colleague; they’ve gone quiet, they’re not their usual self, deadlines are slipping, and you’ve started picking up extra work. If you’re honest, you’re getting frustrated.
What you can’t see is that they’re afraid of what’s waiting for them at home. Or that it’s already followed them to work, in the constant messages, the checking in, the dread every time their phone lights up.
They haven’t labelled their experience as domestic abuse because they’re being told the situation is their fault. But with a kind check in, it might be the seed they need planting to get some support.
Domestic abuse doesn’t stop when the working day starts. And for many people, your workplace is the only place they feel safe.
About this course
This self-paced course opens your eyes to what people living with domestic abuse really experience, how it shows up at work, and the real cost to individuals, teams and UK businesses when it goes unseen.
You’re not expected to be a domestic abuse expert; specialist services exist. But education, curiosity, kindness, and compassion, mixed with the understanding of how they might get help should they wish to, could change or even save somebody’s life.
You’ll learn how to be the colleague someone needs: recognising the signs without judgement, knowing what to say and do, and understanding why your workplace needs a clear policy, practical processes and a culture where people feel safe to ask for help.
What you’ll gain
- A clearer understanding of what living with domestic abuse is really like, why people don’t simply “just leave” and why judging them for not, can cause further isolation.
- The confidence to notice, respond with compassion, and signpost to support
- An understanding of the business case for workplace policy, processes and a supportive culture
Who it’s for
